We start with a look over your teeth. This can include assessing for cavities and taking X-rays. We may also check the space between your gums and teeth for gum disease, tracking inflammation and pockets.
Plaque & Tartar Removal
We use specialized hand instruments to remove tooth buildup. This may involve scraping buildup off, using an ultrasonic scaler to break down buildup, and a spray of water to rinse each area. If you feel discomfort in sensitive areas, simply let us know. We can always numb such areas to ensure full comfort.
Polishing & Flossing
Using a gritty toothpaste on a rotating brush, we polish your teeth. This helps remove surface stains while also smoothing away any smaller pieces of buildup. We then floss between each tooth to remove any lingering buildup.
Fluoride Treatment

Most patients will only need teeth cleaning every 6 months. This baseline covers the oral health needs of the average patient. If you have gum disease or active oral health issues, you may need more frequent cleaning.
How much does professional teeth cleaning cost?
Standard prophylaxis cleaning costs $200 per visit. However, we offer multiple TruGLO Membership plans that help offset the cost of care. Each membership option includes two free dental cleanings each year, which is all that most patients need. If you need extra care, your Membership includes discounts on extra procedures. So, outside of Membership costs, most of our patients pay nothing for each teeth cleaning.
How long does teeth cleaning take?
Routine teeth cleaning typically takes under 1 hour. This includes time spent examining your teeth and even a fluoride treatment (if applicable). We thoughtfully schedule cleanings to minimize wait time so that you can have a thorough cleaning without any rush.
Will I still be able to eat and drink normally after treatment?
You can eat and drink as usual right away after a basic teeth cleaning. If you have a fluoride treatment, we recommend waiting 30–60 before eating or drinking. This brief wait gives the fluoride more time to provide protection for your teeth.
Do teeth cleanings help prevent gum disease?
Yes! Regular cleaning gets rid of the plaque and tartar responsible for gum disease. Teeth cleaning becomes all the more important in controlling gum disease if you already are in the early stages.
Is teeth cleaning safe for sensitive teeth?
Absolutely. We know some patients may have more sensitive gums or teeth than others. In these cases, we take extra measures to keep you comfortable. This can involve topical numbing, adapted techniques, or even local anesthesia in severe cases.
